The Olive Grove
We maintain a small grove with 650 trees and have been hand-crafting delicious Extra Virgin Olive Oil since 2002.
We pick with the family at weekends using nets on the ground and harvest with mechanical rakes – a rewarding but tiring exercise. We also bring in a contractor with a tractor shaker to ‘shake’ the tops of the trees for us, and our fruit is transported to one of several great ‘presses’ in the Wairarapa. After a few hours, we then bring home the ’GOLD’!
Passion and dedication to creating the purest and finest flavours have led us to consistently win ‘Olives New Zealand’ and ‘Royal Easter Show’ awards for our Mission Olive Oil.
The Mission olive cultivar comes from California – from around the Spanish Mission stations, and probably from Spain originally. It is a delicious fruity full flavoured oil displaying buttery and aromatic flavours… some people taste almonds, other apple or citrus.
Our “Cottage Block” is a small corner of our grove dedicated to Frantoio trees. This Italian variety produces a beautiful fruity Extra Virgin Olive Oil. This grassy, fruity boutique oil has a nice pungent peppery kick to finish. This premium product is a favourite and widely sought after, hardly hitting the shelves before it is sold out.
The stony glacial moraine our olive trees grow in is so stony it’s very difficult to dig in to plant our trees! Combining this stony ground with our temperate and maritime climate, our natural environment is perfect for our olive trees to thrive.

We sell our full range of products – Oils, Soaps and Foot creams, at the Waikanae Saturday Market on the corner of Park Avenue and Ngarara Road most Saturdays – 8.00 am to 12.00 noon.
